EIRNS—Russia and Zambia have signed an intergovernmental agreement to build a Nuclear Science and Technologies Center, reported Russia beyond the Headlinesrbth yesterday. It is to include a multi-purpose 10 MW research reactor, with facilities for laboratories and scientific research. Studies will be done in radiobiology, and there will be the production of radioisotopes for cancer diagnosis and treatment. It will also carry out staff training for a nuclear industry.

The basis for this plan was laid last May at Russia’s Atom Expo, when a framework agreement on cooperation on the peaceful uses of atomic energy was signed by Rosatom head, Sergy Kirienko, and secretary of the Zambian cabinet, Margaret Miyoba. [MGF]
