Early in the Eighteenth Century, in the famous exchange of correspondence between the German mathematician and philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and Newton's disciple Samuel Clarke, Leibniz postulated that "absolute" space and void are abstract constructs that lack all reality in the world accessible to man's senses. In the mid-Nineteenth Century, thinkers such as Bernard Riemann, followed by Albert Einstein and Vladimir Vernadski in the Twentieth Century, demonstrated that Leibniz' postulates were indeed correct.

Like the other celestial bodies, the Earth does not move through empty Space as some today would have it. Most of the events that occur on these bodies are governed by "weak forces", the latter often manifested through manifold forms of cosmic radiation. Moreover, the existence of that radiation poses in itself a challenge to the very survival of Man in the Universe.

This section includes film-clips and articles on how Man will explore and colonise Space, on cosmic radiation and its impact on the biosphere, and on the major cycles that characterise geological phenomena both on Earth, and on other planets.

Dans un célèbre débat avec un disciple de d'Issac Newton, Samuel Clarke, au début du dix-huitième siècle, le philosophe allemand Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz a postulé que l'espace et le vide "absolus" ne sont que des concepts abstraits ne correspondant à aucune réalité dans notre monde sensible. De nombreux penseurs comme Bernard Riemann, Albert Einstein, Vladimir Vernadski, pour ne nommer que quelques uns, ont par la suite démontré la véracité des propos de Leibniz.

Ainsi notre planète, la Terre, de même que tous les autres astres de notre univers, ne se déplacent pas dans un espace vide comme on le prétend souvent aujourd'hui. De plus, une grande partie de leur déveleppement est gouvernée par ce que l'ont peut appeler des "forces faibles", se manifestant souvent sous forme d'un rayonnement aux formes les plus diverses en provenance du cosmos. L'existance d'un tel rayonnement pose également un grand défi à toute présence humaine prolongée dans l'espace.
