As elected representatives of the French Republic, we have signed an Appeal to Governments and Parliaments for a Global Glass-Steagall.
In the face of the looming danger now threatening ordinary citizens’ deposits and savings, and the imminent danger of a new explosion of the financial markets, it is urgent, even more so than before, to adopt legislation, both in Europe and the United
States of America, reinstating the "principles of the Glass-Steagall Act," in order to impose a strict separation between commercial banks serving the real economy, from investment banks operating on the financial markets.
At this hour, this is by far the best instrument at our disposal to put into bankruptcy, once and for all, the interests that are responsible of the deindustrialization, deregulation and now austerity imposed on the main Western countries over the last 40 years. We support in France the adoption of such legislation.
We observe and applaud the fact that in your country, the campaign to adopt HR 129, introduced by Representatives Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) and Walter Jones (R-NC) earlier this year and today supported by 61 other Federal representatives, is gaining
ground.
Allow us therefore to ask you to join these Representatives and pass this crucial bill in the U.S. Congress.
