(EIRNS)—The Greek government is prepared to submit to any demand made by its Eurozone masters. Ordered by the Troika to begin foreclosures on mortgage holders who can no longer meet their payments, social workers are warning that there could be a dramatic increase in the number of homeless in Greece. Already some 40,000 people, half of them in Athens, are registered as being homeless, most of whom are sleeping on the streets, or in abandoned buildings.

The number will increase if the government lifts a ban on home foreclosures, which set to expire on Dec. 31. In response, the consumer protection group INKA has called on members of parliament to insist that primary residences be protected, in the event that a ban on foreclosures is lifted.

The government is in discussion now in Athens with the Troika, which is demanding that the government keep its commitment to fire 4,000 more public workers by the end of the year. Kathimerini reports that the mass layoffs could include 1,200 doctors who are employed by Greece’s main public healthcare provider, EOPYY!

Meanwhile, the fascist Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis is about to submit a plan whereby hospital physicians can use their afternoon hours to accept cash paying patients. In reality, it means that the thousands who are on long waiting lists to see specialists, rather than making a corrupt payment to a doctor, can now pay legally in the afternoon. As for those who cannot pay, they will simply have to wait, and many will most likely die. [dea]
