Galloni Issues Statement on Referendum: Italians Voted with Their Brains

Printable version / Version imprimable

EIRNS—The Italian economist, and LaRouche friend, Nino Galloni wrote a statement after the Italian referendum vote, which is among the most reasonable statements issued.

First, he said, the No vote was not a gut vote but a "brain" vote, "to prevent a slide that would have worsened social, economic and political conditions in the country."

Second, if the ECB "continues to do what it has done so far," there will be no crisis in Italy’s sovereign debt. On the contrary, if the ECB "betrays" and stops buying Italian debt, he notes, "we shall march on the streets."

Third, Renzi had made some good moves, such as fighting against the EU on the budget to finance immigration and reconstruction costs, resistance against bail-in, etc. However, his push for the "counter-reformation" has swept him away.

Fourth, Galloni launched a call on Beppe Grillo and the M5S to "elaborate a program of national defense and responsible development that can indicate an alternative path for everyone and the way out of a situation which is socially, economically, financially and ethically more and more unsustainable."

Last September, Galloni had been proposed as finance secretary for the Rome municipality under the current M5S Mayor, Virginia Raggi, but the Malthusian faction inside the M5S prevailed, and Galloni and his investment plan were rejected.
