Presidents Xi and Putin Exchange Greetings at End of ‘China-Russia Year of Scientific and Tech Innovation’

EIRNS—China’s President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged warm greetings at the conclusion of the China-Russia Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation. President Xi observed that in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides engaged in 1,000 cooperation and exchange activities related to scientific and technological innovation. These include collaboration in the fields of pandemic prevention and control, aerospace and aviation, nuclear energy, and digital economy. Both Presidents considered the year a success and proposed enhancing the relationship moving forward. President Putin pointed to the participation of Chinese scientists in the construction of the Nuclotron Ion Collider facility, a large-scale scientific facility, and in the establishment of the Russia-China Mathematical Center.

Next year will be the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Russia-China Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, which will provide for new opportunities for cooperation in science and in other areas. Also in the last few days, China’s Premier Li Keqiang talked with Russia’s Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, as did Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, with similar warm messages.
